In English, a clause expressing a wish or suggestion can be put in the subjunctive, or in the subjunctive mood, by using the base form of a verb or ‘were’. Examples are ‘He asked that they be removed’ and ‘I wish I were somewhere else’. These structures are formal. (TECHNICAL) N-SING: the N SUBLET (sublets, subletting) Note: The form 'sublet' is used in the present tense and is the past tense and past participle of the verb. If you sublet a building or part of a building, you allow someone to use it and you take rent from them, although you are not the owner and pay rent for it yourself. - 1530, from L.L. subjunctivus "serving to join, connecting," from pp. stem of subjungere "to append, add at the end, place under," from sub "under" + jungere "to join" (see yoke).
